Gweithdy yn seiliedig ar theatr Brecht

Pan gysylltodd Pennaeth Drama Ysgol Dinas Brân â mi yn ddiweddar, yn chwilio am ymarferydd i gynnal gweithdy gyda myfyrwyr TGAU ar Brecht a dyfeisio technegau, mae'n rhaid i mi gyfaddef mai hwn oedd un o'r heriau anoddaf yr wyf wedi cael fy ngosod yn ddiweddar. Fodd bynnag, byth yn un i roi'r gorau iddi ar y rhwystr cyntaf, roeddwn wrth fy modd i dderbyn ateb gan David Barnett, Athro Theatr ym Mhrifysgol Efrog, gan gyflwyno mi a’r ysgol i Kerry Frampton, Cyfarwyddwr Artistig, Splendid Productions - un o'r ymarferyddion mwyaf blaenllaw a chreadigol ar waith Brecht sy'n gweithredu yn y maes heddiw.
Roedd Bertolt Brecht yn gyfarwyddwr a dramodydd Almaeneg ac mae'n adnabyddus am ei ymagwedd wleidyddol at theatr. Wedi ei gael yn rhwystredig â theatr naturiol ei gyfnod, gwnaeth Brecht ddeffro ei gynulleidfa gyda dyfeisiau dieithrio a symudodd y wal rhwng actor a chynulleidfa. Mae ei dechnegau'n dal i gael eu defnyddio yn y theatr ac maent yr un mor berthnasol a newydd heddiw ag yr oeddent pan gawsant eu cyflwyno gyntaf.
Mae Splendid Productions yn creu theatr wleidyddol broffesiynol o safon uchel gyda gweithdai ymarferol sy'n seiliedig ar theori ar gyfer bobl ifanc ledled y DU. Mae eu harbenigedd yn dod â thechneg Brechtian yn fyw i fyfyrwyr, mewn perfformiad a thrwy ddarparu profiad gweithdy iddyn nhw ei archwilio drostynt eu hunain.
Roedd y gweithdy 3 awr dan arweiniad Kerry Frampton yn brofiad theatrig gwirioneddol anhygoel ac yn ffordd wych i fyfyrwyr ddarganfod technegau theatrig Brecht mewn ffordd hygyrch, ysbrydoledig, angerddol, meddylgar a chreadigol. Yn gryno a llawn gwybodaeth, egni a sgil, fe wnaeth Ms Frampton gysylltiad â'r myfyrwyr ifanc ac gyda hwy, er mwyn iddynt fedru archwilio technegau Brecht a datblygu'r theori drostynt eu hunain.
Buaswn yn argymell Kerry Frampton a Splendid Productions i bawb - roedd y gweithdy'n ysbrydoledig ac yn rhoi profiad bythgofiadwy i'r myfyrwyr (a minnau).

‘Splendid’ Epic Drama Tuition Indeed!
Workshop based of the theatre of Brecht

When the Head of Drama at Ysgol Dinas Brân contacted me recently, seeking a practitioner to conduct a workshop with GCSE students on Brecht and devising techniques, I have to admit that this was by far one of the toughest challenges I have been set in recent times. However, never one to give up at the first hurdle, I was delighted to receive a reply from David Barnett, Professor of Theatre at the University of York, introducing me and the school to Kerry Frampton, Artistic Director at Splendid Productions – arguably, one of the best, most creative Brecht practitioner working today.
Bertolt Brecht was a German director and playwright and is well-known for his political approach to theatre. Frustrated with the naturalistic theatre of his time, Brecht woke up his audience with alienation devices and removed the wall between actor and audience. His techniques are still used in theatre and are just as relevant and ground-breaking today as they were when they were first introduced.
Splendid Productions create high quality professional, political theatre with theory-based practical workshops for young people across the UK. Their speciality is bringing Brechtian technique to life for students, both in performance and by providing a workshop experience for them to explore it for themselves.
The 3 hour workshop led by Kerry Frampton was a truly amazing theatrical experience and a great way for students to discover Brechtian theatrical techniques in an accessible, inspiring, passionate, thoughtful and creative way. Fast paced and informative, full of energy and skill, Ms Frampton enthralled and engaged with her young audience, quickly getting them to their feet to explore the techniques of Brecht and develop the theory for themselves.
I would recommend Kerry Frampton and Splendid Productions to everyone – the workshop was truly inspiring and gave the students (and me) an unforgettable experience.

‘Enrich yourself’- denbighshire enrichfest.2015
The first time we heard about denbighshire enrichfest.2015 was when our teacher asked us if we wanted to be in a film that Denbighshire Education Services were making. We’re members of a rock band called ‘This Way Down’ and we came first in Denbighshire Schools’ ‘Battle of the Bands’ competition last December. We didn’t know a lot about it but the publicity sounded great, so we said ‘yes’!
We were told that 23 schools, including our own, Ysgol Dinas Brân, had already signed up for denbighshire enrichfest.2015, so we knew we were going to be part of a big event. We’ll have the chance to enter a huge amount of competitions including art, music, short film and writing ones. We might even get a chance to be taught by some of the best performers in Wales, the West End, London and Broadway, between the 15th and 19th of June. It’ll be really worthwhile to work with such a high class of professionals and we may get to perform on the Eisteddfod stage showcasing what we’ve learnt. If we win the music competition, our band may even get the opportunity to play a song written for the festival.
The dates and times are Friday 19 June 2015, 5:00 – 6:15 pm, Llangollen Pavilion.
It sounds like a great opportunity for anyone interested in the arts.
Y tro cyntaf i ni glywed am ŵylgyfoeth sir ddinbych.2015 oedd pan ofynnodd ein athrawes ni os ydym eisiau bod mewn ffilm ‘roedd Gwasanaethau Addysg Sir Ddinbych yn ei wneud. ‘Rydym yn aelodau o fand roc o'r enw 'This Way Down’ a daethom yn gyntaf yng nghystadleuaeth i Ysgolion Sir Ddinbych'dan yr enw 'Brwydr y Bandiau' fis Rhagfyr diwethaf. ‘Doedden ni ddim yn gwybod llawer am y peth, ond ‘roedd y cyhoeddusrwydd yn swnio'n wych, felly dyma ni’n dweud 'ie'!
Dywedwyd wrthym fod 23 o ysgolion, gan gynnwys ein hunain, Ysgol Dinas Brân, eisoes wedi cofrestru ar gyfer gŵylgyfoeth sir ddinbych.2015, felly roeddem yn gwybod ein bod yn mynd i fod yn rhan o ddigwyddiad mawr. Byddwn yn cael y cyfle i roi ymgais i mewn i lawer iawn o gystadlaethau gan gynnwys celf, cerddoriaeth, ffilm fer a rhai ysgrifenedig. Efallai y byddwn hyd yn oed yn cael cyfle i gael ein dysgu gan rai o'r perfformwyr gorau yng Nghymru, y West End, Llundain a Broadway, rhwng y 15fed a'r 19eg o Fehefin. ‘Roedd cynhyrchiad Ysgol Uwchradd Prestatyn o'r sioe gerdd boblogaidd 'Little Shop of Horrors', a berfformiwyd gan ddisgyblion CA4 a CA5, yn fuddugoliaeth! Mae cynulleidfaoedd yn ymgolli, yn ystod y gyfres o bedair noson o berfformiadau, mewn tywyllwch, comedi-arswyd y sioe o'r eiliad y maent yn cyrraedd yn dilyn sgets byr sy’n rhoi braslun byr a rhagolwg yn y cyntedd (peth arloesol taclus i’w wneud !!)... yna mae’r goleuadau’n mynd i lawr ac mae’r gerddoriaeth yn cychwyn i gyflwyno perfformiad gwefreiddiol, llawn bywyd a chyflym. Darperir cerddoriaeth fywl, cyflwynir portreadau cymeriad cryf, set wych, goleuadau proffesiynol, sain o ansawdd rhagorol a pherfformwyr yn cnau drwy meicroffoniau pensymudol - cawsom ein swyno. Cawsom yr ystod lawn o'r hyn y mae'r sioe iyn ei gynnig - planhigyn dyn-bwyta, deintydd maniacaidd, estroniaid o blaned arall a stori garu hefyd! ‘Roeddem yn ofnus ond ar yr un pryd yn chwerthin ac roedd llinynau ein calonnau yn cael eu tynnu gan y stori gariad. Cafwyd un tro rhyfedd ar ôl y llall i adael ein pennau i droi ond prin a allem fforddio i gymryd ein llygaid o'r llwyfan am eiliad gan fod y prysurdeb di-baid ar y llwyfan yn mynd ymlaen ac ymlaen.

I ddyfynnu Gareth Daltry yn ei nodiadau rhaglen, 'O'r actorion, i'r dawnswyr, criw cefn llwyfan, i arlunwyr y ’set’, y trefnyddion gwallt a’r artistiaid colur, i'r staff a'r gofalwyr, ‘roedd y cynhyrchiad hwn (ac eraill) yn wirioneddol ymgorffori ethos Ysgol Uwchradd Prestatyn o 'Gyflawni Cymunedol drwy weithio Gyda'n Gilydd'.

Llongyfarchiadau i chi i gyd ar sioe ‘tip-top’ graddfa 5 seren!
Prestatyn High School’s production of the hit musical ‘Little Shop of Horrors’, performed by KS4 and KS5 pupils, was a triumph! It immersed audiences during its four nights run in the show’s dark, comedic horror from the moment they arrived and given a short preview sketch in the foyer (a neat touch!!)… When the lights went down and the music began, it was a thrilling, pacey performance. Live musical backing, strong character portrayals, a brilliant set, professional lighting, and excellent sound quality with performers sound-miked – we were enthralled. We had the full range of what the show has to offer – a man-eating plant, a maniacal dentist, aliens from another planet and a love story as well! We were scared but also laughed and had our heartstrings pulled. One bizarre twist after another left our heads spinning and we couldn’t afford to take our eyes from the stage for a split second as the relentless action never ceased.
Full marks go to Jordan King (Seymour), Megan Williams (Audrey), Amelia Scott (Mrs Mushnik) and Sarah Evans (Audrey II Voice) and all the featured characters. Congratulations must go to Director, Gareth Daltry and to his entire team of musical directors, choreographers, stage managers, set designers, etc and also to the Headteacher, Phil Pierce and to the school for having the vision to invest in such a marvellous production.
To quote Gareth Daltry in his programme notes, ‘From the actors, to the dancers, backstage crew, to the set painters, hair and make-up artists, to the staff and caretakers, this production (and others) truly embodies Prestatyn High School’s ethosof ‘A Community Achieving Together’.
We couldn’t have put it better ourselves!!

Cystadleuaeth Enfawr ym myd Dawns
Mae sgwad dawns delynegol Ysgol y Castell, Synchrony, wedi cael llwyddiant mawr yn rownd cyntaf Cystadleuaeth Enfawr ym myd Dawns. Mae'r wyth merch Cyfnod Allweddol 2 yn mynd i Neuadd y Dref Birmingham ar gyfer rownd nesaf y gystadleuaeth ar 20 Ebrill 2015. Mae hyn yn gydnabyddiaeth wych o waith caled y merched, sy'n ymarfer bron bob amser cinio ers i'r garfan ddod at ei gilydd ym mis Medi.

Great Big Dance Off Competition
Ysgol y Castell's lyrical dance squad, Synchrony, has achieved success in the first round of the Great Big Dance Off Competition. The eight Key Stage 2 girls are off to Birmingham Town Hall for the next round of the competition on 20 April 2015. It is a great recognition for the girls' hard work, practising nearly every lunchtime since the squad got together in September.

Ar nos Wener 12 Rhagfyr 2014, ‘roedd Neuadd y Dref Y Rhyl yn siglo i’r y trawstiau pan oedd 12 o actiau o ysgolion Sir Ddinbych yn cystadlu am wobr fawreddog Brwydr y Bandiau 2014, ac yn perfformio i lond neuadd o bobl. ’Roedd hwn yn ddigwyddiad unigryw, a ddyluniwyd gan bobl ifanc ar gyfer pobl ifanc. Dyluniwyd a chynhyrchwyd cefnlenni i'r perfformiadau bandiau gan ddisgyblion o Ysgolion Uwchradd y Rhyl a Phrestatyn.
’Roedd y cerddoriaeth yn amrywio o fodern i gyfansoddiadau roc gwreiddiol. ’Roedd cymysgedd o berfformiadau gan unawdwyr, deuawdau, bandiau roc 3-6 darn, gyda chyfranogwyr yn amrywio 7-18 mlwydd oed.

Denbighshire Schools Battle of the Bands 2014

On Friday 12 December 2014, Rhyl Town Hall was rocking to the rafters when 12 acts from Denbighshire schools competed for the prestigious Battle of the Bands 2014 awards, performing to a packed house. This was a unique event, designed by young people for young people. The backdrops to the bands performances was a graffiti mural designed and produced by pupils from Prestatyn and Rhyl High Schools.
Music ranged from modern to original rock compositions. There was a mix of performances from soloists, duos, 3-6 piece rock bands, with participants ranging from 7-18 years.
The winners were as follows:-
Best Primary Act - The Cool Kids, St Brigid’s School, Denbigh
Best Secondary Act - Frazzle, Rhyl High School
Best Group - Event Horizon, Prestatyn Sixth/Llandrillo College
People’s Choice - Equanimity, Ysgol Dinas Brãn, Llangollen

All proceeds raised at the event will be reinvested in future Enrichment activities.
The audience response was phenomenal and organisers are now planning next year’s event.
Dirrnod Blasu mewn Creu Ffilmiau yng Nghanolfan Celfyddydau a Sinema’r Scala Prestatyn gan Hayime Demir, Blwyddyn 10, Ysgol Brynhyfryd
Ar y 3ydd Rhagfyr 2014, cefais y cyfle i gael 'Diwrnod Blasu' yng Nghanolfan Celfyddydau a Sinema'r Scala Prestatyn. ‘Roedd y diwrnod yn cynnwys taith o amgylch y sinema, gwybodaeth am y Scala; yr hyn y mae'n ei wneud a'r rhan y mae'n ei chwarae yn y gymuned. Cefais gyfle hefyd i ysgrifennu, cyfarwyddo a ffilmio docudrama am y Scala. Derbyniais y cynnig a threuliais y rhan fwyaf o'r dydd yn ymchwilio gwybodaeth i gynnwys yn y docu-drama hwn.
Byddaf yn dychwelyd i'r Scala i ddechrau ffilmio a rhoi’r prosiect at ei gilydd.
Mwynheais y diwrnod yn fawr a theimlo, nid yn unig fy mod wedi cael cyfle prin, ond cefais gipolwg amhrisiadwy i mewn i'r diwydiant ffilm hefyd.
Taster Day in Filmaking at the Scala Cinema and Arts Centre, Prestatyn by Hayime Demir, Year 10, Ysgol Brynhyfryd
On 3 December 2014, I was given the opportunity to have a ‘Taster Day’ at the Scala Cinema and Arts Centre in Prestatyn. The day consisted of a tour around the cinema, information about the Scala; what it does and the part it plays in the community. I was also offered the opportunity to write, direct and film a docudrama about the Scala. I accepted the offer and spent the majority of the day researching information to include in this docudrama.
I will be returning to the Scala to start filming and putting the project together.
I thoroughly enjoyed the day and felt not only had I been given a rare opportunity but I gained an invaluable insight into the film industry as well.

Mae’r Lord Chamberlain’s Men, cwmni theatr symudol awyr agored mwyaf blaenllaw y DU, yn cynnig i fyfyrwyr Ysgolion Uwchradd Sir Ddinbych a’u hathrawon gyfle unwaith mewn oes i gymryd rhan mewn gweithdai ar bob agwedd ar berfformiad Shakespearaidd, yn amrywio o actio, ymladd llwyfan, propiau a gwisgoedd, yn Ysgol Glan Clwyd, Llanelwy, ddydd Gwener 26 Medi, 2014.
Ar hyn o bryd mae Gwasanaethau Addysg Sir Ddinbych yn datblygu rhaglen o ddigwyddiadau cyffrous i alluogi disgyblion ysgol i weld drosof eu hunain gwaith gweithwyr proffesiynol ym myd perfformio a'r celfyddydau creadigol.
Bydd y gweithdai yn cael eu cynnal gan actor-cerddorion proffesiynol, sydd wedi eu hyfforddi’n glasurol, gan ddilyn yr un egwyddorion a arweiniodd Shakespeare ei hun: adrodd storïau’n glir mewn modd beiddgar a deinamig, gyda dos iach o gerddoriaeth, caneuon a thrasiedi/comedi.
Gyda gwisgoedd Elisabethaidd, cerddoriaeth a dawns, bydd y gweithdai yn sicr o fod yn boblogaidd gydag Ysgolion Uwchradd Sir Ddinbych.

Mae hyn yn golygu y bydd hwn nid yn unig yn gyfle cyffrous ond yn ddigwyddiad gwirioneddol wefreiddiol.
EXCLUSIVE TO DENBIGHSHIRE SECONDARY SCHOOLS
The Lord Chamberlain’s Men, the UK’s premier open-air touring theatre company, is offering Denbighshire Secondary School students and teachers a once in a lifetime opportunity to take part in workshops on all aspects of Shakespearean performance, ranging from acting, stage combat, props and costumes, at Ysgol Glan Clwyd, St Asaph, on Friday 26 September 2014.
Denbighshire Education Services is currently developing a programme of exciting events to enable school pupils to see at first hand the work of professionals in the world of performance and the creative arts.
The workshops will be conducted by classically trained, professional actor-musicians, following the same principles that Shakespeare himself championed: clear, bold and dynamic storytelling, seasoned with a healthy dose of music, songs and tragedy/comedy.
With Elizabethan costume, music and dance, the workshops are sure to be a hit with Denbighshire Secondary Schools.
Students will gain a new insight and greater knowledge of acting Shakespeare, in particular, exploring some of the unique challenges in Elizabethan performances, whilst teachers will focus on making Shakespeare exciting in the classroom and accessible to all.
This stands to be not only an exciting opportunity but a truly thrilling event.

Mae Ysgolion Uwchradd Sir Ddinbych wedi cael gwahoddiad i gymryd rhan mewn gweithdy canu gydag Opera Canolbarth Cymru yn Ysgol Uwchradd y Rhyl, ddydd Mawrth 23 Medi, 1.00-3.30 pm, yn seiliedig ar eu cynhyrchiad newydd dwys ac agos o 'Carmen', Georges Bizet, mewn cyfieithiad Saesneg gan Rory Bremner, dynwaredwr a digrifwr o’r Alban, ac wedi’i gyfarwyddo gan Jonathan Miller, cyfarwyddwr theatr ac opera Prydeinig, yn cynnwys clasuron megis 'Habanera' a 'The Toreador Song'.
Ar hyn o bryd mae Gwasanaethau Addysg Sir Ddinbych yn datblygu rhaglen o ddigwyddiadau cyffrous i alluogi disgyblion ysgol i weld drostynt eu hunain waith gweithwyr proffesiynol ym myd perfformio a'r celfyddydau creadigol.
Bydd y gweithdy canu yn cael ei gyflwyno naill ai gan aelod o'r tîm creadigol y tu ôl i 'Carmen', e.e. yr arweinydd cynorthwyol neu Gyfarwyddwr Artistig Opera Canolbarth Cymru, Nicholas Cleobury neu un o artistiaid ifanc Opera Canolbarth Cymru. Bydd myfyrwyr yn gweithio ochr yn ochr â'r prif gast ac yn dysgu’r gwahanol agweddau nid yn unig ar yr opera, ond ar fod yn ganwr proffesiynol a'r hyn sydd ei angen i lwyddo mewn diwydiant anodd.
Mae Opera Canolbarth Cymru yn rhedeg y gweithdy canu i gyd-fynd â'i berfformiad o 'Carmen' yn Theatr Pafiliwn y Rhyl, ddydd Mawrth 30 Medi 2014. Un o brif amcanion y gweithdy yw nid yn unig i fyfyrwyr fwynhau a dysgu mwy am 'Carmen' ond i fynychu perfformiad y sioe hefyd.

Denbighshire Secondary Schools have been invited to participate in a singing workshop with Mid Wales Opera at Rhyl High School, on Tuesday 23 September, from 1.00 – 3.30 pm, based on their intense and intimate new production of Georges Bizet’s ‘Carmen’, in an English translation by Rory Bremner, Scottish impressionist and comedian, and directed by Jonathan Miller, British theatre and opera director, featuring classics such as ‘Habanera’ and ‘The Toreador Song’.
Denbighshire Education Services is currently developing a programme of exciting events to enable school pupils to see at first hand the work of professionals in the world of performance and the creative arts.
The singing workshop will be presented by either a member of the creative team behind ‘Carmen’ e.g. the assistant conductor or Mid Wales Opera’s Artistic Director, Nicholas Cleobury or one of Mid Wales Opera’s young artists. Students will work alongside the main cast and learn the various aspects of not only the opera but of being a professional singer and what it takes to make it in a difficult industry.
Mid Wales Opera is running the singing workshop to coincide with its performance of ‘Carmen’ at Rhyl Pavilion Theatre, on Tuesday 30 September 2014. One of the principal aims of the workshop is not only for students to enjoy and learn more about ‘Carmen’ but to attend the performance of the show as well.
In a letter to Karen Evans, Head of Education Services, Rory Bremner, BBC Two’s ‘Mock the Week’ Panellist, expressed his delight that Mid Wales Opera will reach Rhyl and hopefully light a spark and inspire the next generation.
